VISION
To grow and enhance the economic well-being of the community through the promotion of sustainable businesses of all sizes, new and existing . To develop a strategy for economic development that promotes economic health and vitality for all the stakeholders in East Haven and one that is sensitive to the needs of its citizens and their quality of life expectations.
MISSION
To advise the Mayor, director of economic development, the town council and other boards and commissions on all of the town’s economic issues, challenges and opportunities and make recommendations for enhancing the business environment in East Haven.
I. Duties of the EDC
Collect and analyze economic data and information
Collaborate with the East Haven Chamber of Commerce, and Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce on issues pertaining to economic development in Town.
Inventory and evaluate town and privately owned properties that may be suitable for development
Research and analyze impediments to economic development
Research and study regional and State economic development initiatives that may benefit the Town.
Become a support resource for existing businesses and recruit and encourage outside businesses to join the East Haven business community.
II. Develop guidelines and recommendations and actions that promote economic growth and well being.
1. Ascertain the Unique Selling Proposition (USP) of the Town East Haven.
2. Draft actions to overcome impediments to business development.
3. Draft recommendations that enhance business opportunities and incentivize entrepreneurial behavior.
4. Collaborate with other public and private entities in Town on economic matters, as well as with neighboring communities.
5. Recommend plans for the redevelopment and/or repurposing of town owned buildings and undeveloped property.
6. Create a Town identity/ marketing campaign
Public Comment Rules
All persons who wish to speak shall give their name and address to the clerk
Speakers will be given a maximum of 3 minutes
Speakers shall limit their remarks and comments to items on that night’s economic development agenda
No political comments or commentary will be permitted
Public comment is designed so that the speaker may state his/her point of view, opinion or recommendations as they relate to an economic development issue.
Commissioners will not debate, discuss or engage in a dialogue with the speaker
If a person wishes to discuss any economic development issue or topic not on that night’s agenda he/she may submit their request in writing or via email to the Director of Economic Development who shall relay it to the Commission for consideration on the next month’s agenda.
Speakers are expected to be civil and respectful at all times and the Chairman may suspend a person’s right to speak if the speaker conducts himself/herself otherwise.
