Traffic Safety Change on Kimberly Avenue Near Forbes Place to Begin December 10th
The East Haven Police Department is announcing an important traffic safety improvement that will go into effect on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, on Kimberly Avenue at the intersection of Forbes Place (between Forbes Pl. and Kimberly Ave Ext.), recognized as one of East Haven’s most dangerous intersections.
After a comprehensive review involving VN Engineers, the East Haven Police Department, and the East Haven Board of Police Commissioners, the Town will implement a cul-de-sac on Kimberly Avenue. This change is designed to reduce the number of conflict points, calm traffic, and enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians, and neighborhood residents.
The decision follows public hearings, extensive data collection, traffic counts, collision history analysis, and direct observations from officers and engineers. The conclusion was clear: restricting through-traffic at this location will meaningfully reduce hazardous conditions.
The East Haven Police Department emphasizes that once the cul-de-sac becomes active, the area will be professionally evaluated for effectiveness. Emergency services, East Haven Public Schools, and local bus companies have all been notified of the upcoming changes and are prepared for the new traffic pattern.
Residents should be aware that local traffic will continue to have access to the impacted streets, while through-traffic will no longer be permitted past the new cul-de-sac installation.
