  • 32.46 mills for all motor vehicles

Payment Options

Taxes may be paid by:

  • Cash
  • Check or money order
  • Debit or credit card

Please note: A service fee is charged by the credit card processor, Invoice Cloud (not the Town of East Haven).

  • 2.99% of the payment amount or a $3.95 minimum, whichever is greater
  • This fee applies to all debit/credit card payments—whether made online or in person

If you need a DMV release, payment must be made by cash, money order, or bank check to receive same-day clearance.

Taxpayer Responsibilities

It is the taxpayer’s responsibility to pay all tax bills on time.

  • Only one bill is mailed per year, even if your account is billed in two installments.
  • Failure to receive a bill does not relieve you of the obligation to pay on time.

Additional reminders:

  • If your annual tax total is $200 or more, you will receive two payment coupons. You may pay in one or two installments.
  • Please remember to pay your January 2026 installment if you choose to split payments.
  • Delinquent Demand Notices will be issued after each grace period.
  • Unpaid taxes may be referred to a collection agency, State Marshal, or attorney, and bank accounts may be garnished.

Legal Authority

Per Connecticut General Statutes §§ 7-148 and 12-130 through 12-163, the Tax Collector is responsible for:

  • Collecting all taxes due to the Town of East Haven
  • Applying interest and fees to delinquent accounts
  • Enforcing payment using available legal tools (e.g., State Marshals, Collection Agencies)
